Guide to Wall Tents

Wall Tent : What is it?

Wall Tents

A wall tent is a large tent with a ridged roof and four straight, vertical walls. Wall tents are usually made of weatherproof canvas or other heavy fabrics. Most are designed to accommodate large groups, and are commonly used for family trips. They are also treated with various kinds of weather protection, which makes them ideal for long-term camping as well.

Kinds of Wall Tents include the following:

Wilderness wall tents

Wilderness wall tents are designed for extreme outdoor conditions and are usually made of marine grade or fire-resistant canvas. They are made with stronger ridges reinforced with extra layers of canvas. The eaves are also reinforced with nylon supports and metal D-rings.

Hunter wall tents

Hunter wall tents are used as temporary shelters or stations for hunting trips. Most models have a small screen hole cut out of one wall to serve as a watch window. They are usually made from highly heat-resistant canvas. Some are also fire-resistant.

Outfitter wall tents

Outfitter wall tents are lighter tents designed for more leisurely and recreational camping. They are made of lighter canvas varieties or lighter fabrics such as polyester.
They are often treated for fire, water and mildew resistance.

Blend tents wall tents

Blend tents are designed to be folded and packed away for easy storage and transport.
The walls and roofs are usually made of polyester or plastic-based products like vinyl and PVC. This makes them about 40% lighter than regular canvas wall tents.

Choosing Wall Tents (Buying tips)

Durability: Choose a wall tent that can stand up to harsh weather conditions. Make sure it is resistant to water, moisture, heat, and mildew. The flat walls are often vulnerable to tearing from strong winds, so look for thick, reinforced canvas walls.

Ventilation: Choose a wall tent with adequate air vents to keep air circulating inside the tent. This will reduce internal humidity and moisture, which can cause a tight, clammy feeling inside the tent. Larger tents need more air vents.
