Guide to Survival Kits

A survival kit is a pack of supplies and tools used outdoors in camping trips, hikes, military aircraft, spacecraft, and disaster-prone areas, and indoors at home and in school in cases of emergency, disaster, or calamity. A survival kit contains only the minimum elements required for survival like items for protection against the elements, water purification, emergency signals, implements for creating fire, first aid supplies, food, knife and hunting implements, and navigation equipment.        

Basic

A basic survival kit contains only the basic items required for survival in the wilderness and nothing extra provided for comfort.
It can contain emergency signals such as flare guns, fire starters such as matches, knife and tools for hunting and tapping water, first aid kit, navigational tools such as a compass, glow sticks for light, and an emergency blanket.

Deluxe

A deluxe survival kit includes all the basic elements plus food and water with a five-year shelf life, a flashlight with radio that can be operated by batteries or solar power, emergency poncho, insect repellent, GPS, cookware, and fuel.

Quantity: Choose a survival kit that contains enough supplies for the number of people concerned.  If you plan to go camping with a group of three to five people, get a survival kit packed for five or more persons.    

Cooking pot:  Choose a survival kit with a cooking pot made from aluminum tin so is lightweight and durable. Aside from being a cookware, the cooking pot can also serve as a container for the other survival items.     

Bag:  Choose a survival kit that comes with a waterproof and weather-resistant bag so it can better protect the items inside.
