Ski Hat : What is it?

Ski hats are close-fitting knit or crocheted caps made of wool, fleece, or other soft synthetic materials. They provide protection from the cold and wind, as well as adequate insulation for the head, the neck and the ears. They are also called toques in Canada, ski caps, toboggans, or stevedore caps. Ski hats are also fashionable items worn by men and women in the cold season.

Types of Ski Hats

Kinds of Ski Hats include the following:

Beanies

Beanies are worn low on the head. They cover the forehead and can be pulled down over the ears.
Skullies or skull caps are short and form-fitting beanies. They fully stretch over the head.
Beanies also come in long forms worn low over the head. They have a couple of inches of nonstretched cloth extensions that trail above the head.

Wooly hats

Wooly hats or bobble hats are beanies with pom poms on top.

Balaclava

Balaclavas are form-fitting hats pulled down and worn over the face.
They have holes for the nose and mouth.

Beret

Berets have stiff linings that make them stand upright over the head.
They can have back extensions to protect the neck and the ears from the cold.
They can also have visors in front for shielding against the sun.

Ear flaps: Choose a ski hat with ear flaps to protect your ears from the cold even if you are not wearing ear muffs.

Lining: Choose a ski hat with an inner lining to prevent it from being carried away by the wind.
