Australian Saddle : What is it?
Australian saddles are characterized by free-swinging stirrups hanging dressage-style. They combine the positive traits of Western and English saddles such as fleece lined panels, D western rigging, fenders, forward seats, and horns.
Australian saddles are mainly used for trail riding. Because of their forward seats, the rider is positioned at the back with heels down and legs leaning forward a bit. In this position, the rider's weight is equally distributed to the buttocks and thighs, which allows for a more comfortable ride.
Australian saddles are safer to use compared to the others. They allow the rider to prop up a foot that can support him in case he falls. Australian saddles have built-in kneepads called poleys that protect the kneecaps and prevent them from fracturing or breaking.
Kinds of Australian Saddles include the following:
Deep seat Australian saddles
Made of wooden trees reinforced with fiberglass and steel covers, deep seat Australian saddles are extremely durable and lightweight.
They have four-and-a-half-inch-deep seats for maximum comfort during trail riding.
They are padded with fleece girths for added comfort.
They come in horn and no-horn varieties, depending on the rider’s preference.
Stock poley Australian saddles
Made of durable and smooth leather parts, stock poley Australian saddles are weatherproof, making them suitable for all riding conditions.
They are predominantly western style saddles that provide comfort during long rides.
They have four-inch seats that cushion the rider effectively to prevent strain and backaches.
They are available in standard brown or black leather shades.
They usually weigh about 20 pounds.
Rugged Australian saddles
Also known as outback saddles, rugged Australian saddles are made of hard leather.
They are suitable for endurance riding in all types of weather conditions.
They have bar irons, fenders, under-and overgirths, and brass hardware for hanging extra accessories.
Some models have air tunnels in the tree saddles to cool the horse's back during extended riding.
They come in different sizes to fit any horse breed.
Materials used: Choose an Australian saddle made of genuine leather because it is extremely durable and can withstand extreme temperatures. It is also breathable and comfortable, allowing you and your horse to withstand extended riding periods with minimal discomfort.
