Pendants are hung from necklaces to accent or add color to one's outfit. They may be made of various materials, such as gold, silver, and precious stones. Most pendants have a hook or clasp inserted from one end of the string or hooked onto one of the links on a chain necklace. Some necklaces are supplied with pendants, but it is also possible to buy several pendants to be used interchangeably with a single chain.
Types Of Pendants
Kinds of Pendants include the following:
Drop pendants
Drop pendants are suspended from a small chain or loop attached to the necklace.
They are usually tapered or vertical and extend about an inch downwards.
Common designs are teardrop shapes and multiple gems arranged in a line.
Slide pendants
Slide pendants are designed to slide along the chain on multiple loops or a single wide loop.
They are commonly used with snake pendants, where they can slide smoothly without damaging the chain.
They usually feature solitaire gemstones mounted on thick gold or silver frames.
Clip-on pendants
Clip-on pendants have clamps that close over the chain to hold them in place.
They may be fixed to the center of the chain or allowed to move like a slide pendant.
They can be put on and removed without removing the necklace.
Choosing Pendants (Buying Tips)
Weight: Choose a pendant that will not pull too heavily on your chain. Make sure the chain and pendant are proportional in size. Use larger pendants for thick chains and smaller pendants for lighter chains.
Hook: Choose a pendant with a sturdy hook that will not break or snap when pulled. Use clip-on pendants only for light necklaces, because they can easily snap open with heavier weights. Slide pendants usually have the best hold because they have wider hooks.
