A memory card reader reads data from one or more types of media cards for transfer, viewing, editing, or printing. It consists of a lightweight case with one or several card slots, and a cable or interface for connecting with the computer. Those with more than one slot are often called media card hubs.
Types of Memory Card Readers
Kinds of Memory Card Readers include the following:
Single memory card reader
A single memory card reader can read only one media card format. Most models are small enough to plug directly into the computer without using a cable. Multimemory card reader
A multimemory card reader has several slots or ports for reading several types of memory card formats. It is usually bulkier than the single card reader and connects to the computer using a peripheral cable.
Series memory card reader
A series memory card reader has two or more slots in the same format.
Choosing Memory Card Readers (Buying tips)
Transfer rate: Look for a memory card reader with a high transfer rate for faster communication and data sharing. Interface: Choose a memory card reader with a USB 2.0 connector to ensure maximum compatibility with most computers. If you have high-capacity cards containing large files, look for a FireWire connector for faster file transfers.
