Choking is a major concern to kids because these little tykes tend to put just about anything in their mouths. For this reason, most infant gears such as teething toys among others are now carefully designed not to have small detachable parts that may induce choking. The presence of such parts has led to several recalls of children's toy, including the latest from eStyle Inc. This company, which sells stylish maternity clothes, infant wares, and toys, is voluntarily recalling its Mini Chef Complete Toy Kitchen set after findings that the pegs supporting the oven shelf and those supporting the four legs of the refrigerator shelf can be easily detached. This makes it very easy for children to “experiment” with the pegs and even try to eat them, which can lead to choking. Moreover, the Mini Chef Complete Toy Kitchen was reported to be prone to tipping over, which again increases the risks of injuries to a child playing with it. To date, eStyle.Inc has received one report of a toddler who was supposedly able to detach a peg and put it in his mouth. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries yet. The recalled product is a one piece set measuring about 32 by 43 inches and replicates a complete kitchen. It dominantly yellow and red body features a metal sink, faucet, four burner stove with front oven and five turn know panel, refrigerator, shelves, phone, clock , microwave door, and a roof. This was reportedly sold exclusively in Babystyles stores and in their websites from October to December 2007. Only 65 units were reported sold and all known users have been contacted by the store. People who own one and have not been contacted yet are advised to call eStyle Inc. at (877) 378-9537 to receive a store credit. Careful inspection of children’s toys is a must since kids cannot look after their own safety. Pediatricians recommended that parents carefully examine the toys they buy for small parts which may be choking hazards and sharp edges which can injure kids. They also advise parents to buy only toys suitable for the kid’s age.
