For most people, snowmobiles are the ultimate winter vehicles. It is not hard to see why, because these machines serve a lot of purposes from transportation to recreation and even extreme sports. However, the popular Ski-Doo snowmobiles were recently recalled, as some models released by one of the top manufacturers in the country were found to be fire hazards. At least 430 of the 2007 and 2008 versions of the Expedition TUV V800 and Skandic SWT V-800 models are currently being voluntarily recalled by their distributor, BRP US Inc., for posing possible fire hazards. This is mainly blamed on the engine design of these models, where the friction caused by the clashing of the fuel hose and the cylinder head cover causes a pierce or hole to the hose. This leads to fuel leakages, which in turn may cause a fire to start from within the mobile's body. This is very dangerous since it happens inside the mobile's track without the driver's knowledge, until it is too late. Fortunately, deaths and property damage due to these snowmobiles are yet to be reported. Consumers who have purchased snowmobiles from Ski-doo dealers from May 2006 to March 2008 are advised to check the models of their mobiles, which can be easily located on the machine's side panel. Those in possession of the above-mentioned models are strictly advised to stop using their mobiles and contact a dealer to schedule a repair. BRP US Inc. may be reached through the toll free number (888) 638-5397 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and through the company's website. Fire incidences are not the only incidents associated with the use of snowboards. Accidents involving snowmobiles have been major concerns since these machines were introduced. This is because, unlike in snowboarding where snowboarding rails are used, the natural terrain is the snowmobile's track. Reports of natural or human error disasters involving these machines are quite numerous, but the most common reason is mismanning of the machine. This is why even with a properly functioning snowmobile, it is best to practice caution to avoid any untoward incidences. |
