Baby Sunscreen : What is it?
| A baby sunscreen is a lotion applied to the exposed areas of babies' skin to protect it from sunburn and the sun's ultraviolet rays. It usually has an SPF rating (sun protection factor) of 15 or higher. It has a gentle formulation and a pleasant smell that will not irritate the babies. |
|

Kinds of Baby Sunscreens include the following: |
Organic baby sunscreen
- An organic baby sunscreen is made of natural ingredients like sunflower and jojoba oils.
- It has a nongreasy formula.
- It is easy to apply and comfortable to wear all day.
- It can have reflective, broad-spectrum barriers like titanium oxide that effectively block out UVA and UVB rays.
Citronella baby sunscreen
- This type of baby sunscreen contains citronella that effectively wards off mosquitoes.
- It is available in SPF 15, 30, and higher.

SPF rating: For added protection, choose a baby sunscreen with an SPF rating of 18, 30, or higher. Check the bottle label to make sure it can also effectively block both UVB and UVB rays.
Hypoallergenic property: Choose a hypoallergenic baby sunscreen to make sure it will not harm your baby's skin.
Usage information
Apply baby sunscreen at least half an hour before going out to the garden or the park. For babies under six months, apply baby sunscreen only to exposed skin.
For babies six months and older, apply layers of sunscreen evenly to the skin prior to swimming or sunbathing. Reapply generously every two hours or when your baby sweats or gets thoroughly wet.
Avoid exposing your baby to the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM, as the sun shines brightest during this period. Also, avoid staying out in the sun during this time even if the skies are overcast or cloudy because UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds. |
